When should a young player get an agent?

Later than most people think — and for better reasons than most people are given.

The right moment is when professional interest becomes real: trial invitations, contract discussions, or consistent first-team minutes. That is when decisions start carrying consequences a family shouldn't navigate alone — and when an agent's work actually adds value.

Before that point, representation mostly adds pressure. A fourteen-year-old with an agent doesn't develop faster; he just carries expectations earlier. The years before professional interest are for training, playing, and growing up — not for career management.

There are exceptions. If clubs are already calling, or intermediaries you don't know are approaching your family, an early conversation with a licensed agency can bring clarity and protection — even if the conclusion is simply 'not yet'.

That is the answer we give more often than any other. When we take a player on, it is because the timing serves the player — never because it serves us.
